Ron Geesin iniziò la sua carriera in
Scozia agli inzi degli anni '60, suonando in una banda di jug e di
ragtime (gli Original Downtown Syncopators), ma la fama gli giunse dalla
sua attività di mago dello studio di registrazione, per la quale venne
impiegato dai Pink Floyd (suoi gli arrangiamenti per coro e orchestra di
Atom Heart Mother
e buona parte del primo album solista di Roger Water) e dal cinema.
Sul suo primo album, A Raise Of Eyebrows,
suonò da solo pianoforte, harmonium, armonica, banjo, guitarra,
percussioni e nastri, anticipando la seconda fase "tecnologica" del rock
progressivo. Con Electrosound
divenne uno dei pionieri della musica elettronica in Gran Bretagna. Gran
parte della sua carriera si svolse nei sotterranei dell'avanguardia.
Geesin fu sempre un bizzarro incrocio fra i freak psichedelici e gli
studiosi del suono.
Con As He Stand
ampliò ulteriormente la strumentazione acustica ed elettronica della sua
orchestra. Patruns
èinvece un album per solo pianoforte. Anche tutti
gli album successivi vennero composti, eseguiti e registrati da Geesin
in persona, nella più totale solitudine.
Viene riportato sulle scene negli anni '90 dal revival di interesse per
i suoi primi dischi.
Nel 1990 ha "eseguito" a Glasgow un concerto per Tune Tube, uno
strumento gigantesco di sua invenzione che viene suonato dai passanti
che ci camminano dentro.
La sua vera vocazione è probabilmente quella del folletto che usa
l'elettronica per comporre musiche umoristiche.
